This is a one day course focusing on undertaking a Safeguarding Enquiry.

It will support you to develop your confidence in: undertaking or co-ordinating an enquiry;

focusing on the outcomes identified by the individual; assessing risk and developing an effective safeguarding protection plan.

The training will consider the relevance of the Mental Capacity Act to adult safeguarding and highlight the importance of multi-agency working

Self Neglect training

Self-Neglect and Safeguarding Adult Level 2 Training

This half day course will enable participants to gain knowledge and develop skills in working with people who self-neglect in line with the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the principles that underpin Making Safeguarding Personal and research based good practice.

Female Genital Mutilation  (FGM) training

This half day session which will provide safeguarding professionals with an overview of FGM and their responsibilities in FGM cases. It will contain information on how to identify and assist girls who are at risk of FGM and how to support those who have been subjected to the practice.

Facilitator: DCI Leanne Pook is Avon and Somerset Police’s designated lead for the response to FGM.  Leanne has led the force response to FGM, has been the South West Regional Liaison Officer and sat on all the national police FGM working groups and the Home Office stakeholders meeting.

Trafficking and Slavery

Introduction to the Mental Capacity Act

This is a half day course providing an introduction to the Mental Capacity Act.

The course will enable you to understand what having mental capacity means,

how to assess decision making capacity and understand how to make decisions on

behalf of people who are unable to do so themselves. The course will consider how the legislation is relevant to your role and its impact on your practice

Mental Capacity Act - Assessing Capacity, Making Best Interest Decisions and Recent Case Law

This is a full day’s course which will provide participants with an overview and more detailed guidance on how to assess decision- making capacity and how this should be approached and recorded. It will also consider how to make and record thorough and legally robust best interest decisions as well as examining recent case law in this area. The course will highlight areas of good practice and how relevant legislation should be used in practice

 This is not an introductory course and it is aimed at staff who already have a reasonable working knowledge and experience of the Mental Capacity Act
